Build your family almanac
Set up these three permanent homes once. Each lesson can then add one small piece to your timeline, maps, or word treasury.

String timeline
Pin a length of string where your child can reach it. Cut out the anchor cards on the next sheet and clip them on loosely. Leave room to move them as the collection grows.

UK and world maps
Print one UK map and one world map. Mount them permanently. Daily lessons will add only markers, labels and routes.
Use a small box, envelope file, or notebook as a treasure-hoard of words. Add one word card per lesson. Revisit and rearrange the collection often.

Print once, then add small pieces
Keep the timeline, both maps, and the treasury container permanently. Later lesson packs should contain only a timeline card, a map marker or route, and a treasury card. Do not print the permanent starter sheets again unless one is damaged or lost.

Begin with movable anchors
Cut out these cards and clip them to the string. Their spacing is provisional: moving them is part of learning how history clusters.

Map system
Two permanent maps, small daily pieces
Print one UK map and one world map. Mount them permanently. Daily lessons will add only markers, labels and routes.
Discovery maps leave room for lesson markers. Reference maps add permanent labels. Map data and credits
UK map

Daily map-piece standard
One place marker: 20–25 mm. One label: short place name in large print. One route: removable string or a pencil line. One instruction: name the permanent map and the nearest known place. Store loose pieces in the marker pocket above.
